Detroit’s very own Slum Village return with their eighth studio album, Yes!, which is scheduled for release June 16 via Ne’Astra Music. Almost the entire record features beats from none other than the late J Dilla, who was an original member and producer of the group. The current Slum Village lineup comprises T3, Illa J, and Young RJ.
The rap crew have already shared two tracks from their forthcoming LP. The first, “Expressive,” features BJ the Chicago Kid crooning smoothly over Dilla’s trademark soul-inflected beats, while Slum Village deliver thought-provoking rhymes. You can watch the video below:
“Right Back” features De La Soul on a number that’s propelled by 88 keys but held in check relatively calm and collected rhythm track. Slum Village join the New York rappers on a joint that will take you right back to the days when donut day was every day.
With the rest of the album stacked with guest appearances, including Phife Dawg, Bilal, and Black Milk, Yes! is sure to have us all crying its title out this summer. Check out the full tracklist below:
