Detroit techno pioneer Richie Hawtin is bringing his CNTRL tour back to college campuses across North America after a three-year hiatus. The tour, set to occur in eight cities over eleven days, incorporates daytime lectures concerning the impact of technology on music as well as nighttime performances by Hawtin and additional participating artists.

The theme of this year’s tour is “Individuality and Creativity in Technology-Based Music.” During the day, Point Blank Music School will produce and host hour-long master classes. Sponsoring technology companies — including AIAIAI, Beatport, DJ Techtools, Funktion One, Little Bits, Livid, Pioneer, Roland, Splice, Subpac, and Traktor — will unveil new products to participants during the lecture series throughout the course of the tour. Finally, there will be discussions from Hawtin, Ean Golden, and various other artists about forging a career in the music industry.

Each day culminates in a performance at a local venue by Hawtin and a rotating group of electronic musicians, allowing students to experience firsthand the information they spent the day learning about. Artists include Matthew Dear, Matador, Ean Golden, Francois Kevorkian, and Matrixxman.

Hawtin’s hope for the shows is that “people walk away… with a deeper understanding and appreciation for the individual creativity that each artist and performer puts into their own shows.”

The CNTRL tour is an exciting opportunity for students to gain unique perspective from industry success stories. You can find more information about the tour and the full lineup here.
