Second wave Detroit techno icon Richie Hawtin has shared his newest venture, following his decision to end his four-year run in Ibiza with his ENTER. project. Hawtin announced “Play Differently” at NAMM, a conference for the world’s biggest music instrument and production manufacturers. The joint venture with Allen & Heath and parent company Audiotonix is a project two years in the making.
Ever the technological pioneer, Hawtin’s “Play Differently” project aims to redefine what it means to DJ today. According to Hawtin, “the ethos of Play Differently is to create instruments that will magnify individuality and expand the creativity of today’s generation of electronic music artists, producers and DJs. We hope to encourage and inspire creatives to PLAY differently.” Additional details are scarce, but it’s safe to say the technology and equipment created under the “Play Differently” name will be unlike anything we have seen before.
In other Richie Hawtin news, the artist recently released a surprise LP in honor of the 25th anniversary of his label, Plus 8. It was also recently announced that Hawtin will perform at this year’s Movement Electronic Music Festival in Hart Plaza.
