According to reports from the Detroit Free Press, Sunday evening’s annual Grammy Awards will broadcast a 30-second advertisement featuring Detroit’s Red Bull House of Art and resident artist Tylonn Sawyer.
The Red Bull House of Art operates as an invite-only, creative-based incubator for Detroit-area artists, and has been open in Eastern Market since May of 2012. Sawyer’s “Faces of Detroit” portrait series, which is the primary focus of the commercial, examines the “the city of resilient people” and the possibilities of Detroit’s creative organizations.
The 75-second short film (written Ryan Patrick Hooper of Pure Detroit) will be shortened to a 30-second ad, but will run on ten networks until March 2, according to the Freep. In addition to countless Red Bull can cameos, the short film includes appearances by Detroit photographer Joe Gall, co-founder of Detroit Bike City Jason Hall and local gallery owner George N’Namdi.
“It’s definitely one of the best things to happen to Detroit in a long time,” Sawyer says. “They push the artists – they give them the opportunity to make their dreams come true.”
