Detroit’s Protomartyr have released their video for “Want Remover” off of last year’s excellent album Under Color Of Official Right. The video, directed by Hanly Banks, features a dozen or so men and women doing interpretive dance in a sparse studio, set to the band’s heavy-hitting track.
While post-punk and “ecstatic dancing” may seem like a counterintuitive combination, the video’s use of slow motion achieves a sense of hypnotic lethargy that complements the band’s industrial sound. The carefree nature exhibited by the dancers provides a feeling of catharsis that reflects the “free from fear” sentiment expressed by singer Joe Casey.
Protomartyr will be hitting the road in April. Check out their tour dates and watch the video for “Want Remover” after the jump.
