Video may have killed the radio star, but it has been enjoying quite the afterlife online, with numerous Internet radio stations catering to a increasingly fractured listening audience. Prominent among these is Pitchfork Radio, the recently launched broadcasting wing of the popular music website, Pitchfork.com. After a promising start in Los Angeles this winter, the station has been quiet for months… until now.
From October 5-23, Pitchfork Radio will make its home in the Motor City. In partnership with Shinola and TuneIn, the station will broadcast live from Willys Detroit, located at 441 W Canfield St. The station will welcome guest DJ sets and on-air appearances from Protomartyr, Third Man Records, Ghostly International, Cassette Store Day DJs, and more.
The station will feature shows from Pitchfork staffers, but it will also showcase regular shows from hometown names such as MOCAD’s Greg Baise, Detroit Farm and Garden’s Brian Allnutt, Hello Records’ Wade Kergan, Tia Fletcher of Bumbo’s, and many others. The station will be produced by Ted Shumaker, with Trace Crutchfield as a host.
