24-year-old Detroit-area producer Max Landry has released a new music video for his cover of 50 Cent’s “21 Questions” via Shot Selection productions and Detroit production company B!GG.

After graduating from the prestigious Berklee College of Music of Boston in 2012, Landry has been working with some of Detroit’s most influential artists behind the scenes. His training in music production and engineering has led to contract production work, vocal engineering for area artists and multiple cover recordings with visual accompaniments – both shot in Detroit.

Landry’s latest release is a black-and-white testament to 50 Cent’s 2003 hit “21 Questions” – as listeners have never heard it before. The cover substitutes 50 Cent and late-vocalist Nate Dogg with Landry’s own vocals and instrumentation for a relaxing, yet meaningful revisitation of a new-age hip hop classic.

Directed by Bobby Pancakes of Shot Selection, the video portrays multiple couples struggling to maintain their relationships in the face of neglect, mistrust, separation and economic collapse. The video opens with a casual meal at Lafayette Coney Island and ends with a candid scene of Landry joking with the camera crew.

In addition to Landry’s countless appearances, Detroit hip hop artist Nate Eaken is featured as the video’s jail-ridden ex-drug dealer struggling to maintain his relationship from behind bars. Eaken was recently nominated for the Detroit Music Awards‘ People’s Choice Award, which will be announced April 25 at the DMA’s annual award ceremony at The Fillmore.

Landry recently returned to Detroit following SXSW music festival in Austin, as an associate of hip hop giant Boldy James. The two have reportedly already recorded tracks together, which are still in the process of being developed.
