Detroit-native rocker Jack White had never played the Fox Theatre before Monday, July 28, 2014, and during his highly-anticipated return home, he promised to never do so again.
“This is my only time at the Fox Theatre,” White said during the two and a half-hour performance. “It was the final piece of the puzzle and I’ve saved it for a long time.”
White and his band blazed through a 26-track setlist for more than 5,000 Monday night, though the energy of the Fox theatre was conflicting at times. The 39-year-old guitarist/singer/producer/record exec reminded attendees on multiple occasions to ignore the urge to sit down, or disengage, saying, “We’re all together now. This isn’t ‘Gone With the Wind’ in the 1930s, all right?”
White played selections from his two solo albums (Blunderbuss and Lazaretto), The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather, and a cover of Lead Belly’s “Goodnight Irene” as the performance’s final note.

Between his Monday performance at the Fox Theatre, and his Wednesday (July 30) performance at the Masonic Temple, White is scheduled to throw the ceremonial first pitch for the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park on Tuesday. In addition to his presence on the mound (7 PM), White has announced that his infamous Third Man Records Rolling Record Store will be parked outside the stadium from 4 PM – 7PM with vinyl rarities, and TMR memorabilia.
