Detroit-born Jack White talks about his rapid rise in the early aughts, and how that sudden fame led him to move from the Motor City to Nashville in an excerpt from an upcoming interview with Dan Rather on AXS TV.
“It was very hard for me to move. Detroit — I always imagined I was going to be there my whole life. It always felt like my home; even as hard as it is to live there, it always felt that way to me.”
The former singer-guitarist of The White Stripes, who most recently released his sophomore solo album Lazaretto, moved to Nashville in 2005. Speaking to the host of Big Interview, he cites the city’s cynical response to his former band “breaking into the mainstream.” Nevertheless, White is careful to note that he sees that reaction as endemic to the Rust Belt at large, rather than a feature exclusive to Detroit.
Jack White’s feature will premiere on AXS TV this Tuesday, September 16 at 8:00 pm EST and will include the musician giving Dan Rather a tour of Third Man Records, showcasing a bit of his guitar collection, and performing an off-the-cuff Hank Williams cover. The special will rebroadcast on Wednesday, September 17 at 9:30 am EST; Thursday, September 18 at 7:00 pm EST; Friday, September 19 at 9:30 am EST; and Sunday, September 21, at 10:00 am EST.
