On December 30th, Detroit hip hop artist Microphone Phelps will release his first official album with all original production from djkage – Grand Design.
Mic Phelps rose to prominence in the underground battle-rap world, also performing as part (1/4) of the popular Cold Men Young rap collective. His full-length, first release is a 19-track concept album built around excerpts from the “fireside lectures of a radical political theorist from U of M in the 1970’s.”
Phelp’s album has been long-awaited in the Detroit rap scene. To mark the event, ASSEMBLE is throwing a release party hosted by WDET’s Travis Wright (Culture City) and rapper CrackKillz DaGod at Tangent Gallery on December 30. The show will feature a special performance by Stones Throw Records veteran Guilty Simpson, as well as appearances from Passalacqua, Erno The Inferno presents Lisa Stocking, Lokye and a number of other vocalists/emcees.
