Since releasing their first official single “Waves,” Detroit’s ‘cosmic-trap’ duo Gosh Pith have been sharing new material every few months. Each successive track they’ve put out has garnered considerable praise from taste-makers throughout the blogosphere, and with the release of “Vietnam Junkie” Josh Smith and Josh Freed have completed the six-song collection that comprises their debut EP, Window. Better still, they’ve made the whole thing available as a free download.
We’ve reviewed most of the tracks on Window previously, and “Vietnam Junkie” continues in same vein as the duo’s excellent prior efforts. The track opens with some otherworldly sound effects and a hiccuping bass, before Josh Smith launches into a surreal stream of consciousness that defies interpretation. It’s a moody piece that slowly resolves into a dance number for a postwar/post-apocalyptic universe. That’s the space Gosh Pith occupy — trippy, trappy, and unlike anything else out there today. For more adventures through their looking glass, stream Window at their website. You can dip your toes by listening to “Vietnam Junkie” below:
