To celebrate Street Fighter V’s recent release, Otaku Gang (Richie Branson and Solar Slim) have unleashed Marshall vs. Capcom, a mash-up album that superimposes lyrics from 15 of Eminem’s hit tracks over music from the popular video games series. The tape is available for download directly onto Street Fighter V, creating opportunities for gamers and music enthusiasts alike to merge the two arts into one exciting experience.
In an interview with HipHopDX, Solar Slim elaborated on the difficulty of working on this particular project compared to past endeavors: “[Eminem’s] flow is so crazy, it’s all over the place. And he sings on pretty much everything. From a producer’s standpoint, you can’t just make a beat. You can’t just make sure that the beat fits around it and the groove fits around it. Now you have to match the key. When you’re dealing with samples, we’re only limited to Street Fighter samples, the challenge becomes so much greater.”
In addition to well-known songs such as “A** Like That,” “The Way I Am,” and “Stan,” Marshall vs. Capcom features deeper cuts, too. “Till I Collapse” is arguably the most potent track on the album, as it takes on the form of a trap-style number, with an accent on percussive rhythms and breakbeats that create a stop-and-go effect popular in heavier EDM bangers. All around, there’s something here to please all types of Eminem fans as well as aficionados of the Street Fighter series.
