Electric Forest music festival is celebrating its fourth year of multi-genre entertainment with a four-day event at Rothbury, Michigan’s Double JJ Ranch campgrounds Thursday, June 26 – Sunday, June 29.
The infamous Michigan music festival has become synonymous with electronic music heavyweights, Michigan vendors, fantastic nature-infused light shows, and eclectic crowds. Since 2011, Electric Forest has catered to those looking for a “big festival” experience while staying close to home, and is expected to bring approximately 75 artists, and more than 35,000 attendees.
Past festivals have included performances by: The String Cheese Incident, Big Gigantic, Tiesto, Bassnectar, Skrillex, Lotus, Kaskade, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Eliot Lip, Benny Benassi, Pretty Lights, A-Trak, GrizMatik, EOTO, Baauer, Danny Brown, Passion Pit, Flosstradamus and others.
See Detroit Music Magazine’s “Must See” Detroit-area acts below:
Chrome Sparks (Fri 5-6 PM @ The Forest Stage): An ex-University of Michigan student turned DJ/producer, this kid left school to follow his dreams and was just signed by Australia’s Future Classic. Keep an eye on this one, and don’t miss his set deep within the illuminated forest.
Golf Clap (Fri 930-1030 PM @ The Forest Stage): Local favorites and Grasshopper resident DJs Golf Clap follow up their massive Movement set with yet another huge Michigan festival performance. This will surely be the biggest stop of their “PGA Tour,” and another chance for Detroit label Country Club Disco to shine.
Woven Tangles (Sat 3:15-4:15 PM @ The Observatory): A true staple of Detroit folk. This instrumental-based duo is a Funky D Records favorite, and a unique wavelength for a mostly-electronic weekend. The traditionally American, yet reimagined, sounds of this group are not to be missed. (Voted one of Detroit Music Magazine’s “Best of 2013.”)
Kevin Saunderson b2b Dauntiez Saunderson (Fri 11 PM-1:15 AM @ The Forest Stage): The Saunderson family has established a techno-dynasty. This father & son set proves that the Saunderson name will continue to dominate the techno world. Watch the techno royalty duo’s Boiler Room set from this year below:
Joe Hertler & The Rainbow Seekers (Sat 2:30-330 PM @ The Forest Stage): This Detroit folk-rock band will bring their playful energy to the Rothbury, where their backyard bonfire folk-rock will resonate with any festival-goer looking for a break from the very Electronic Forest. Watch for brightly colored clothing, American flags and acoustic guitars.
The String Cheese Incident featuring Lauryn Hill @ The Ranch Area: Though not originally from Michigan, String Cheese adopted the Double JJ Ranch and carried on Electric Forest festival since the passing of Rothbury. This is the band that makes this all happen, stop by and check out one of their four sets – especially the one featuring Lauryn hill. (Lauryn Hill “Solo” Fri 530-7pm) (SCI Fri 8-1145pm, Sat 815-945pm, Sun 830pm-1245am) (The Ms. Lauryn Hill Incident Sat 945-1145pm)
