A Michigan court has delayed rulings on the heated legal battle between SFX and AEG/Madison House Presents (Madison House) regarding a real estate dispute – which could jeopardize the future of Electric Forest music festival, according to reports by Dancing Astronaut.
The dispute began with SFX’s interest in purchasing the property which hosts Electric Forest music festival – Double JJ Ranch. This is believed to be triggered by a recent partnership between SFX-competitor AEG with Madison House in January of 2014.
The original owners of the property, Progressive Resorts, owed millions in unpaid debt, which SFX has offered to pay in full. Progressive now claims that their 20-year lease contract with Madison House is considered void, regardless of Madison House’s $60,000 deposit for Electric Forest’s 2014 festival.
The Michigan court is scheduled to hold a hearing regarding Electric Forest’s real estate battle on February 24. More than 21,000 concertgoers have already purchased tickets for Electric Forest 2014.
Electric Forest has denied that this legal battle will threaten the Michigan festival via Twitter:
Forest Fam, in light of recent rumors, we want to confirm that #EF2014 is def still a go! The initial lineup is coming soon! #StayTuned
