The Detroit Symphony Orchestra has announced a series of concerts in tribute to Simon & Garfunkel.
The performances will be given under the direction of the much sought-after Pops Conductor, Michael Krajewski, and will include many of the folk-rock duo’s greatest hits such as “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “Kodachrome,” and “Mrs. Robinson.”
Vocalists A.J. Swearingen and Jonathan Beedle will also join the orchestra for the performances, which will take place Friday, November 14 at 10:45 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., as well as Saturday, November 15 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, November 16 at 3:00 p.m. in Orchestra Hall.
A preconcert presentation will also be hosted in Orchestra Hall on Friday, November 14 and Saturday, November 15 at 7:00 p.m. and on Sunday, November 16 at 2:00 p.m., in which conductor Krajewski will speak with vocalists Swearingen and Beedle. All three will discuss topics including their musical backgrounds, how they were first introduced to the music of Simon & Garfunkel, the inspiration behind the creation of the tribute show, the process of selecting the repertoire, as well as other anecdotes about their music and collaborations.
Swearingen and Beedle have been performing this tribute to Simon & Garfunkel’s music for over a decade. The performance captures the beauty and magic of the duo’s sound during their early years in Greenwich Village.
Tickets to The Sounds of Simon & Garfunkel start at $19 and may be purchased here.
