In the spirit of the Halloween season, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra is offering a spine-tingling pops series fit for The Skeleton King himself — “Danny Elfman’s Music from the Films of Tim Burton” — which will take place Friday and Saturday (October 30 & 31).
Elfman, the musical mastermind behind such Tim Burton-directed classics as The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, and Beetlejuice, has received four Academy Award nominations and a Grammy Award for his composition for Batman (1989). Other notable works include The Simpsons theme, the Desperate Housewives theme (for which he won an Emmy Award), Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, Sweeney Todd, Corpse Bride, and many more.
As a follow-up to the sold-out success of 2013’s Halloween season, 2015’s back-to-back performances will be led by Broadway legend and conductor/arranger/musical director Ted Sperling, with vocal contributions from the Adrian College Concert Choir.
Tickets range from $19 (upper balcony) to $105 (private box seats) and can be purchased here. Watch Tim Burton and Danny Elfman discuss the Batman theme below:
