Dej Loaf drops three new music videos in one day

Detroit favorite Dej Loaf has been blowing up. Since dropping her mixtape All Jokes Aside this April, the artist’s exposure has exploded. To keep the party moving along, Dej — with the help of director C.J. South — has gifted her fans with three stylish videos in the past week. Reportedly all three were filmed in the same day — further proof of the emcee’s homegrown work ethic.

The video mashup of “Vibes/Chase Mine” (produced by Izze The Producer and KLVN/Carrington Brown, respectively) is shot in an almost day-in-the-life style with a Steadicam following Dej into a performance space, where her assertive flow is downplayed by the chill feel of the keys and the chimes.

The elegant motifs and slick piano backing of “Goals” (again, handled brilliantly by Izze The Producer) can almost make you forget how talented Dej Loaf is behind the mic. While she reminds us to play by the rules, they don’t seem to apply to her as she delivers a monstrous flow with total precision and ease.

On “Who Am I” (produced by DDS), Loaf delivers a little chunk of sexy hip-hop existentialism as she juggles the demands of Sunday morning with shots of Hennessy on Saturday nights. The design of this video turns the themes of “Goals” on its head as Dej disappears into the dark water of her porcelain bathtub and she tells the listener to “follow me.”

As Dej Loaf capably demonstrates in these videos, she is equally competent as a singer and a rapper, often approaching her rhymes with an R&B swagger. These clips make a strong case that you should probably go listen to All Jokes Aside.
