Detroit proto-punk trio Death has officially released its second archival full-length studio album within the last three years, titled Death III.
After dipping into obscurity for more than 30 years, the surviving members of Death celebrated a reanimated success after one of their sons found a collection of master recordings in an attic. With the help of vinyl collectors such as Ben Blackwell from Third Man Records, and a 2012 Drafthouse documentary titled A Band Called Death, the untold story of Death’s early punk influences has become a legendary rock tale.
The nine-track album opens with a recorded introduction by the band’s late frontman David Hackney, and includes tracks recorded in 1975, 1976, 1980, and 1992. Listen to the full stream of Death III here.
In celebration of their new release, Death appeared on The Arsenio Hall Show, during which they performed the …For the Whole World to See track “Freakin Out.” Death is scheduled to perform at Metro Times’ Blowout 17 at the Magic Stick on May 5, at 12am.
