Death to release first “N.E.W.” material in forty years

death-new

Legendary proto-punk band Death formed in Detroit in the 1970s and spent years recording music at United Sound Recording Studios before becoming long-forgotten. This all changed in 2009, when Drag City released the act’s 1975-recorded …For the Whole World to See, which was quickly followed by a live shows, an award-winning documentary, and two more albums of previously unreleased music. Now the group has announced that they will be releasing their first album of new material in forty years.

Fittingly enough, Death’s upcoming record is entitled N.E.W. and is due out on April 24 through their own TryAngle Records, with distribution via Drag City. Some tracks are finished versions of songs written by singer Bobby Hackney and his late brother/bandmate David in the ’70s, while the rest of the material is all new. The only performance that has been announced thus far is in Burlington, VT on February 13.
