Kembe X, a self-proclaimed (former) teenage rap phenomenon, hails from the South Holland suburb of Chicago. His debut mixtape Self Rule was released back in 2011 to some acclaim; since then, he and his crew — The Village — have been ramping up to Talk Back, a new mixtape that will be released this summer.
Kembe has had fellow Chicago emcees Vic Mensa and Chance the Rapper guest on his tracks before, but the Danny Brown verse on “Hereditary (2 Bitches)” is a whole different kind of animal. The backing instrumental has a lot of moving parts that become subdued when the Detroit rapper announces his entrance. Following his trademark wail, Brown slaughters the last 16 bars of the song, pumping it full of personality until it finally bursts.
