Tuesday evening marked the ninth-ever BET Hip-Hop Awards (hosted by Snoop Dogg), which celebrated the champions of 2014 hip hop culture, showcased up-and-coming talent and offered a slew of live performances.
As part of the annual awards show, the 2014 BET Hip-Hop Awards included multiple “Cyphers,” which are freestyle-esque performances exposing promising and established artists in a back-to-back fashion. Two participants of 2014’s BET Cyphers hailed from Detroit – Calicoe and Detroit Che.
Other 2014 BET Cypher participants included artists, such as: Wiz Khalifa, Juicy J, Ty Dolla $ign, Tuki Carter, Berner, Chevy Woods, Remy Ma, Snow tha Product, Lil Mama, Dreezy, Papoose, David Banner, G-Eazy, Kevin Gates, Vic Mensa, Troy Ave, Logic, Treach, Genesis, Dee-1, Loaded Lux, King Los, Corey Charron, DJ Scratch, T-Rex, Goodz, Rain 910, Conceited, Tsu Surf, Dillon Cooper, Two-9, Jarren Benton, Andy Mineo and Emilio Rojas.
During their Cyphers, Detroit Che donned a gold crown, while Calicoe (backed by DJ Premier) mentioned Wiz Khalifa’s recent remix of Detroit artist Dej Loaf’s latest hit-single, “Try Me.”
