According to reports from Billboard magazine, Bob Dylan will star in a new Detroit-centered Super Bowl advertisement for Chrysler (now Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) during Sunday’s game between the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks.
Following in the footsteps of Eminem, Berry Gordy and Clint Eastwood, the 72-year-old folk singer will appear in a cinematic promo from Fiat Chrysler on Super Bowl Sunday, and will license his own music for the soundtrack of the new ad. The ad is expected to promote the newly-unveiled 2015 Chrysler 200 model, which made its debut at last week’s NAIAS in Detroit.
Chrysler Group CEO Sergio Marchionne spoke to Bloomberg News about the upcoming commericial:
“Someone made the comment to me that I had the right commercial in 2011 and the wrong car,” Marchionne said (referring to Eminem’s Chrysler ad). “I think we now have hopefully the right commercial and the right car.”
A Jeep advertisement featuring Dylan’s “Motherless Children” appeared during the fall of 2013, which established Dylan’s relationship with the Chrysler brand. Though Dylan has been famously known for his reservations regarding music licensing, in recent years he has lent his work to Victoria’s Secret (2004), Apple (2006), Cadillac (2007) and Chobani Yogurt (2014).
