Sean Michael Leonard Anderson, better known as the Detroit-raised G.O.O.D. Music affiliate Big Sean, has released a new song featuring Drake and an uncredited Kanye West. “Blessings,” off his upcoming record Dark Sky Paradise, is a bona fide banger and offers a promising look at the rapper’s third studio album.
Warbling synths and heavy-hitting 808 arrangements provide an alluring, if slightly sinister, background to Sean’s signature offbeat flow. The five-minute track manages to pack in humblebrags (Sean), familiar crooning (Drake), and not-so-humblebrags (Kanye). Together on a song for the first time since 2009’s “Forever,” Kanye and Drake leave personal problems at the door and deliver tight verses that frame Sean’s rapping impeccably.
Dark Sky Paradise is out February 24. We’re blessed to have this track to tide us over until then.
