If you were thinking about taking the family down to Belle Isle this weekend for some relaxation and fun in the sun, you may want to reschedule — unless your family loves techno.

On August 1 and 2, Charivari Detroit — a free music festival — takes over the park. Now in its second year, the event features over 80 world-class DJs playing electronic music in all its celebrated forms.

This year’s lineup is staggering and includes Theo Parrish, Juan Atkins, Rick Wilhite, Eddie Fowlkes, Golf Clap, Jay Daniel, Terrence Parker, Delano Smith, Gary Chandler, DJ Godfather, Calico, and The Saunderson Brothers.

The music goes from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, but your night doesn’t have to stop at Belle Isle. The after-parties, dubbed “Fallout Shelter” 1, 2, and 3 will keep you going all weekend long.

Tonight at The Works, catch Rick Wilhite and Theo Parrish headlining, with support from local favorites. The following night, The Works hosts Jay Daniel, Kyle Hall, and Golf Clap. Truth Café presents Norm Talley, Bruce Bailey, Earl McKinney, and more, while Populux plays host to Eddie Fowlkes and Moodymann.

Closing out the weekend at The Works are Gary Chandler, Chuck Daniels, Terrence Parker, Detroit Techno Millitia, The Saunderson Brothers, and a special guest. That same night, Populux presents Juan Atkins, Delano Smith, and others.
