Detroit’s experimental post-punk five-piece Bars of Gold have released the first video from their stunning sophomore LP, 2013’s Wheels.
The clip for “Blue Lightning” cycles through a refracted set of close-ups of the band members’ faces as they undergo some playful – but disconcerting – transformations. This, combined which the neon-colored, but slightly washed out, hues lighting the screen, gives the video a psychedelic vibe that fits naturally with the group’s sound.
They teeter on the edges of our city’s genres, where Motown’s soulful grit gives way to a paranoid gait and someone spills the acid from a battery in the garage. Consider this video their postcard from those edges.
