Aretha Franklin will release new album September 30

Aretha Franklin’s “diva covers album” will be gracing the ears of Detroit listeners digitally by September 30, according to reports by Showbiz411’s Roger Friedman.

The album, which is tentatively titled Aretha Franklin Sings Songs of the Great Divas, has been announced for release just before the Grammy Awards deadline thanks to legendary record producers Clive Davis and Babyface (with involvement from Andre 3000). Preceding the release, the Queen of Soul will complete a major media circuit, appearing on David Letterman September 29, during which she will sing her album’s first single, a rendition of Adele’s “Rolling in Deep,” in addition to appearing on the Today Show October 3.

Franklin’s new album, which was recorded at Studio A in Dearborn, is expected to feature diva classics, such as: Gladys Knight’s “Midnight Train to Georgia,” Whitney Houston’s (and Chaka Khan’s) “I’m Every Woman,” Etta James’ “At Last,” Alicia Keys’ “No One,” Barbra Streisand’s “People,” and “Teach Me Tonight” (Janet Brace, Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Natalie Cole, Amy Winehouse, popularized by Phoebe Snow).

Physical copies of Aretha Franklin Sings Songs of the Great Divas are expected to be available shortly following the September 30 digital release.
