Since his days as Phreshy Duzit, Brooklyn-via-Detroit rapper Amir Obè has upped his game with every release. Along with the name change, Obè refined his bars and production style, releasing Detrooklyn last year to critical acclaim. He worked with OVO producer Vinylz on a track from that project, which led to a producing credit for “Star67” on Drake’s colossal album If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, released earlier this year and recently nominated for the Best Rap Album Grammy Award.
Happening in the Grey Area is Obè’s most buttoned-up project to date, including production from long-time collaborator NYLZ and appearances by PARTYNEXTDOOR on a couple tracks. “I’m Good (feat. PARTYNEXTDOOR)” premiered on OVO Sound Radio earlier this year and has garnered quite a bit of attention for the young Detroit-born MC. Could he be the 6 God’s latest co-sign?
