This Friday, August 14 at Chene Park, electronic music legend Derrick May teams up with our very own Detroit Symphony Orchestra for a once-in-a-lifetime concert. One-third of The Belleville Three, May will perform classic house and techno tracks (including his iconic “Strings of Life”) backed by DSO performers, under the direction of conductor Francesco Tristano.
Although May has performed with other orchestras around Europe, this is his first symphonically backed performance in his hometown of Detroit. The North American debut of this cross-genre performance hopes to bring in a wide range of fans — both young and old — to revel in the fusion between past and future, classical and electronic.
In addition to this classical/technological fusion, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra has announced the release of a new digital archive of performances called Replay, which will be available for on-demand streaming. The performances will be cataloged for up to three years and available to donors who have given $50 or more.
