Widely considered the breakout story of last year’s Detroit rock scene, post-punk act Protomartyr could have easily coasted on the success of their sophomore album, Under Color of Official Right, our pick for the best album of 2014. But they’re not resting on their laurels; today the band announced the upcoming release of their next LP, The Agent Intellect, due out on October 9 via Hardly Art.
The group have also announced an extensive world tour in support of the record, including two dates in Detroit — October 9 and 10 at Marble Bar. Earlier this year Protomartyr released “Blues Festival” as a split 7″ with R. Ring (fronted by Kelley Deal of The Breeders), who will be headlining the BFF Fest on July 25.
Protomartyr have also shared an advance single from the album, “Why Does It Shake?”, which lead singer Joe Casey has called “a back-handed ode to humanity’s resilient self regard in the face of inevitable oblivion. Then the trap door opens.” Check out the tracklist for The Agent Intellect below and listen to “Why Does It Shake?” after the jump.
