Nominees for the 2015 Detroit Music Awards have been announced, and the list of honorees includes many artists and recordings that have had an impact both nationally and here at home.
This year’s ceremony, which marks its 24th year in 2015, was first established in 1992 by the Detroit Music Awards Foundation, a non-profit organization founded in 1988, whose mission is to recognize Detroit area musicians working on a national, regional and local level. Past awards shows have featured musicians such as Was (Not Was), Eminem with D12, The Clark Sisters, Kid Rock, Martha Reeves, Smokey Robinson, Bob Seger, Glen Frey, The Miracles, Grand Funk Railroad, George Clinton and Parliament, and Ted Nugent, among many others.
Eminem and Bob Seger are among the honored artists this year, a roster that also includes Jack White, Aretha Franklin, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Royce Da 5’9”, Big Sean, DeJ Loaf, Trick Trick, Jessica Hernandez & the Deltas, Passalacqua, Flint Eastwood, Microphone Phelps, Doc Waffles, Eddie Logix, and filmmaking duo The Right Brothers.
