According to Memphis Commercial Appeal, John Hampton, the two-time Grammy Award-winning producer and engineer, died on Friday at the age of 61 from complications of cancer.
Over a career that spanned four decades, Hampton worked with many acclaimed musicians, including Jack White. He mixed albums for all three of the Detroit icon’s acts: Get Behind Me Satan (The White Stripes), Sea of Cowards (The Dead Weather), and Broken Boy Soldiers (The Raconteurs). Hampton engineered archival material for The Replacements and also recorded with Alex Chilton, The Cramps, The Afghan Whigs, John Hiatt, Mudhoney, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
