Garth Brooks to play Detroit after 18-year hiatus

Country-rock legend Garth Brooks has announced two Detroit performances – his first stop in the Motor City since playing the Palace of Auburn Hills in 1996.

After an 18-year hiatus, 52-year-old Brooks will return for two back-to-back shows at Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena, on February 27 and 28. As part of the “Garth Brooks World Tour with Tricia Yearwood,” Both Joe Louis performances will feature opening acts from vocalist (and Brook’s second wife) Tricia Yearwood. It is expected that additional Detroit dates will be announced, as smaller market cities have received three or more.

Brooks is one of the highest selling recording artists in United States history, second only to Elvis Presley, surpassing The Beatles in 2012 with more than 69 million copies sold. The two-time GRAMMY Award-winner and five-time American Music Award-winner is responsible for 10 studio albums – two of which are certified diamond.

Tickets for the two Joe Louis performances are $66 and will be available December 19 through Tickermaster. (Tickets will not be available through the Joe Louis Arena box office.)
