The Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences announced the nominations for the 2015 Grammy Awards yesterday, and among the contenders were three Detroit artists. Rocker Jack White scored four nominations, rapper Eminem landed three, and R&B singer Kem earned one nod.

Although none of these artists earned a nomination in one of the four major categories (Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, or Best New Artist), the Motor City is still well-represented among the 83 categories. Jack White’s album Lazaretto and song of the same name earned him nominations for Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song, and Best Alternative Album — a category he won three times as part of The White Stripes. This will be the first time he will be trying for a solo Grammy win.

In addition to his work on Lazaretto, White is up for another award in the category of Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package as art director for The Rise & Fall of Paramount Records, Volume One (1917-27), which Third Man Records released in collaboration with Revenant.

Eminem is also no stranger to the Grammys, having won thirteen awards throughout his career. Next year, he will be recognized for his work on The Marshall Mathers LP2, both in the category of Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song for the single “Rap God.” He will also compete alongside Rihanna in the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration category for their song “The Monster.”

Hoping to score his first Grammy Award is Motown Records artist Kem, who was nominated twice in 2010 for work from his album Intimacy. He has been nominated this time in the Best Traditional R&B Performance category for a song entitled “Nobody.”

In addition to the aforementioned artists, a recording of L’Orestie D’Eschyle by the French composer Darius Milhaud that took place at Hill Auditorium and featured many University of Michigan groups is up for Best Opera Recording.

The 57th Grammy Awards take place on February 8, 2015. The full list of nominees can be found here.
