Two icons of Motown will bring their talents to The Great White Way this winter. The Temptations and Four Tops have been tapped to play a one-week engagement at Broadway’s Palace Theatre from December 29 through January 4.
Robert Ahrens, Eva Price, Manny Kladitis, A Broadway Concert Event, and Live Nation Entertainment are presenting the concert. The shows will serve as both a career retrospective and a celebration of the artists’ many hits, which include “Papa Was a Rolling Stone,” “My Girl,” “Bernadette,” “Get Ready,” and “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch).”
The Temptations began their career in Detroit during the early ’60s and became household names in 1964, with the release of Smokey Robinson’s “The Way You Do the Things You Do.” The group was inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 after garnering thirty-five Top 40 songs to their name.
After recording their first single in 1956 with Chess, Four Tops signed with Motown’s Berry Gordy Jr. when they found out they had scored a national Tonight Show spot. They earned their first hit with “Baby I Need Your Loving” in 1964 and were inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 with twenty-four Top 40 songs.
