Former drummer of GUNS N’ ROSES Matt Sorum has taken to Twitter to criticize the Motor City Madman’s widely-known love for hunting, after finding a photo of Ted Nugent with a small game kill.
The photo depicts a smiling Nugent (and a young boy) holding a compound bow, and a dead groundhog with an arrow through the back of its head. Sorum expressed his dissent for Nugent’s pastime by tweeting the photo, and labeling him a “sick individual” for appearing so pleased with his small prize.
In recent years, GUNS N’ ROSES drummer Matt Sorum has become a social activist via his organization Adopt the Arts, which promotes art and music education in public schools. However, the musician has also become involved with the International Fund for Animal Welfare, which educates children on the effects of the hunting of elephants and the lucrative ivory trade connected with their targeting.
Nugent, a well-known staunch conservative and gun ownership/hunting advocate, is a board member of the National Rifle Association and the owner of a large hunting ranch in Jackson, Michigan. He has received criticism in the past for his hunting exploits, including: his ranch’s “canned hunting” practices, a 2010 conviction in California’s Yuba County for two misdemeanors – illegally baiting a deer, and failing to have a deer tag signed by a government official, and a $10,000 fine and one-year federal-land hunting ban in 2012 for illegally killing a bear in Alaska.
The Detroit-native, and Amboy Dukes guitarist, has also released more than 30 albums, sold more than 30 million records, and is the author of four books – including New York Times Best-Seller “God, Guns and Rock ‘n’ Roll.”
Ted Nugent is scheduled to perform at DTE Energy Music Theater on July 19 with Brownsville Station and The Rockets.
