Metro-Detroit area pop-legend Madonna made an unannounced trip to the Motor City Tuesday, during which she visited the Detroit Achievement Academy charter school, the McDougall-Hunt neighborhood’s famed Heidelberg Project, Detroit’s EmPowermentplan, and the Downtown Boxing Gym training facility.
Madonna posted several images to her Instagram account (along with the hashtag “#revolutionoflove”) highlighting her tour of Detroit, including time with the students of the Detroit Achievement Academy, youth athletes at the Downtown Boxing Gym training facility, and De Mequa and Netty of Detroit’s EmPowermentplan. The ‘Queen of Pop”s quiet trip to the Detroit area does not coincide with any public performance or known recording schedule.
The 55-year-old pop icon has received criticism in recent years regarding her absence from the Detroit-area and lack of participation in Detroit’s revitalization and new cultural development.
