In conjunction with Movement Electronic Music Festival 2014, local pre-parties, day-parties, and after-parties have become a festival of their own.

 

Movement performers and special guests showcase their most organic, underground, and unearthed material in the form of intimate performances hosted by nightclubs, area venues, and off-the-beaten-path concert spots. This year’s Movement festival provides an unmatched lineup for those looking to see their favorite artists at a familiar location with extraordinary listener attendance.

 

Detroit Music Magazine has compiled a list of the most highly-anticipated Movement-weekend parties around Detroit for those looking to engage in the full festival experience. Enjoy!

 

Friday:

 

Movement Opening Party & BBQ

Who: Daniel Bell, Floating Points & more

Where: TV Lounge

What: Kick-off Movement weekend in style at the TV Lounge with some fine techno and deep house beats. Daniel Bell, a powerhouse of the 90s techno scene, will be performing alongside Enigmatic UK producer Floating Points.

 

Ghostly15

Who: Adult, Shigeto, Matthew Dear & More

Where: Saint Andrew’s Hall

What: Celebrate 15 years of Ann Arbor’s finest electronic music label at St. Andrew’s. Featuring sets by international favorites Adult, Shigeto, Matthew Dear, and others.

 

An Intimate Evening With Carl Craig

Who: Carl Craig

Where: Motor City Wine

What: Carl Craig, an original pioneer of Detroit techno, will perform a four hour set. (Enough said.)

 

Saturday:

 

Soul Clap’s House of Efunk

Who: Soul Clap & George Clinton, Heidi, Justin Martin, Stacey Pullen & more

Where: TV Lounge

What: Soul Clap will curate and headline this event with legendary special-guest George Clinton of Parliament Funkadelic. Soul Clap and Clinton will be performing new material written and produced by the two as a duo. If that isn’t enough to pull you in, Heidi, Justin Martin, and Stacey Pullen are just a few names to appear on this stacked lineup.

 

Manic Focus & Exmag

Who: Manic Focus, Exmag & more

Where: Majestic Theatre

What: Check out this after-party for a heavy dose of glitch-hop, funkstep, and dub. While Movement is foremost a celebration of where techno started, this event is a glimpse into the world of future beats.

 

Bathroom Culture presents Dinamo Azari & Morgan Geist

Who: Dinamo Azari, Morgan Geist & more

Where: Northend Studios

What: Bathroom Culture presents a true Detroit electronic experience at Northend Studios. This quintessential Detroit venue is perfect for those tired of crowded clubs and are seeking real Detroit style-party surroundings. This performance will feature Dinamo Azari from Azari & III.

 

Sunday:

 

OK, Cool

Who: Seth Troxler, Craig Richards, The Martinez Brothers & more

Where: TV Lounge

What: The TV Lounge continues to dominate memorial day weekends afterparty scene, throwing another stacked event. Local favorite Seth Troxler headlines this event, with support from international standouts Craig Richards, The Martinez Brothers & more.

 

DNBSTRONG2014

Who: AK1200 b2b Gridlok, DJ Dara & more

Where: Majestic Theatre

What: A heavy dose of drum and bass – not for the casual techno enthusiast, but diehard bassheads are welcome. This event will be nonstop energy, so hit up DNBSTRONG2014 to keep your weekend going hard.

 

Monday:

 

Country Club Disco

Who: Golf Clap, Ardpher, Sergio Santos & more

(Saturday with Treasure Fingers, Kill Frenzy. Sunday With Christian Martin, Ardalan)

Where: Exodus

What: Golf Clap presents Country Club Disco runs all weekend, and the lineup is impressive for each night, but local favorite and Grasshopper residents Golf Clap are scheduled to headline the final evening of this three day event. Country Club Disco (Monday night) is expected to be one of post-Movement’s top choices.

 

KMS Records ‘Elevate Your Mind’

Who: Kevin Saunderson b2b Dantiez Saunderson, Damarii Saunderson, Exhale & more

Where: Whiskey Disco

What: A fine Detroit techno family event to close off the weekend featuring father and son spinning back to back. Bridging the gap between one generation of Detroit techno and the next, Dantiez carries on his father’s legacy as he begins his own career as a respected DJ/producer.
