Detroit’s annual “Rockin’ on the Riverfront” concert series has announced its 9th year of summer music at GM Riverfront Plaza, in partnership with Detroit’s classic rock station 94.7 WCSX.
The festival is scheduled to host live music performances every Friday evening from 7:30 pm – 10 pm, between July 11 and August 15, as the GM Riverfront Plaza’s outdoor stage will provide listeners with a quintessential Detroit view – housed between the Detroit Riverfront and the GM Renaissance Center’s Wintergarden.
The kicker: every Friday evening performance is free to the public, with no tickets required. Parking is also available for only $5 per vehicle at the GM surface lot (the intersection of St. Antione and Atwater).
This year’s “Rockin’ on the Riverfront” concert series will feature appearances by: The Guess Who (“American Woman,” “These Eyes,” “No Sugar”), Leon Russell (“Tight Rope,” “Lady Blue”), Starship (“We Built This City,” “Sara”), America (“A Horse with No Name,” “Sister Golden Hair”), and others.
In conjunction with “Rockin’ on the Riverfront, 94.7 WCSX is sponsoring a battle-of-the-bands contest, titled “Rockin’ Wars,” to determine the opening acts of the concert series’ first three performances. Entries for “Rockin’ Wars” must be submitted to WCSX.com, and will result in online voting by WCSX listeners. Entries must be received between May 19 – June 20 for consideration.
