Following the group’s February Dilla Day Detroit performance – De La Soul has been iregularly active. The hip hop icons recently released their entire catalogue of music for free via their website, continued an international tour and announced an exciting series of releases for 2014.
On Tuesday, De La Soul shared a J Dilla-produced track titled “Dilla Plugged In.” The reanimated production offers samples from James Brown, as well as the Native Tongues.
“Dilla Plugged In” is the first release from the group’s upcoming mixtape Smell The D.A.I.S.Y. – which will feature only J Dilla production work. This will mark De La Soul’s second mixtape this year, following early 2014’s Premium Soul On The Rocks, which features strictly DJ Premier and Pete Rock productions.
In addition to a lengthy tour, and the production of two highly anticipated mixtapes, De La Soul is planning to drop their first studio album in more than a decade. The album, You’re Welcome, is set to drop this summer.
