ESPN The Magazine has revealed three separate covers for its annual ‘Music Issue’ – all of which feature an athletic superstar joined by a music-industry powerhouse.
To the delight of the Motor City, one of the covers features the Detroit Lions’ Calvin Johnson alongside Detroit’s undisputed hip hop champion Eminem. Sitting atop two huge speakers, Megatron and Slim Shady are both seen sporting the Lions’ Honolulu blue, and mean-mugging readers worldwide.
The issue itself focuses primarily on the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime scandal that rocked gossip newsstands more than a decade ago – Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson’s “Nipplegate.” Notable players from both sides of the scandal discuss the event, and reignite the debate: was it an accident, or a well-planned $550,000 PR strategy?
The additional two covers for ESPN the Magazine’s 2014 ‘Music Issue’ feature Nicki Minaj, Kobe Bryant, Kendrick Lamar and Chris Paul.
