Jack White appeared on the Charlie Rose interview program this week to discuss the history of Paramount Records, and his recently-released box set titled The Rise and Fall of Paramount Records, Volume One (1917-1927) through his Third Man Records label.
White discussed the process of gathering the box set’s 800 rare recordings, the blues and jazz genres during the Great Depression and the fall of the Midwestern recording company that produced some of the biggest hits of its era.
Third Man’s Paramount collection includes: 800 digitally-remastered tracks, more than 200 original ads and images, a 250-page hardcover narrative book, a 360-page encyclopedia/reference manual, a custom-forged metal and wood set-case and a custom USB drive which houses a music and image player app. The set is currently available through Third Man Records’ website for $400.
The set features music by Louis Armstrong, Ethel Waters, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Jelly Roll Morton and countless others.
