The Gories, the 1980s garage-punk group which revolutionized blues-rock in Detroit, have released a live-recorded album from a 1988 performance in Detroit, titled The Shaw Tapes: Live in Detroit 5/7/88.
The release is being offered through Third Man Records as the group’s first live album, their fourth full-length album and the band’s first major release since 1992. Mick Collins, Dan Kroha and Peggy O’Neil are heard at the top of their Detroit garage-influence, before the formation of The Dirtbombs and The Demolition Doll Rods.
The Shaw Tapes pays homage to the late Jim Shaw, a long time supporter of music culture in Detroit, and one of the dedicated fans responsible for the live recording – which took place at a converted storefront house party in 1988. The release is available on CD and limited-edition vinyl.
