Brandon Williams, Detroit’s jazz/soul/hip hop producer extraordinaire, has released a second single from his upcoming album XII, titled “Godsend,” featuring saxophonist De’Sean Jones and pianist Jon Dixon.
The brief instrumental was written, produced and arranged by Williams, in addition to his drum programming, keys accompaniment and live drum contributions. Jones’ tenor saxophone ties together Williams’ steady rhythm and Dixon’s melodic keys with a winding smoothness that refuses to overshadow the unifying synthesized bass. The production value of Williams’ work reminds listeners of his mastery as an arranger, an engineer and most of all – an artist.
Williams’ upcoming album, XII, has yet to announce its release date, but is expected in spring of 2014. His previously-released single features Jean Baylor, titled “Stronger.” Both are available for stream and download via Brandon Williams’ website.
